It can be tempting to blame the health-care industry for the high cost of medical care, but the solution to this problem is in our own control. In this video, Dr. David Sherer, anesthesiologist and author of Bottom Line’s What Your Doctor Isn’t Telling You blog, suggests that rather than focusing on the excessive costs of health care, we should instead focus on a cultural shift away from poor eating habits, lack of exercise and use of recreational substances. Even small efforts toward moderation can be beneficial in this regard. By taking control of your own health, you can avoid the endless reliance on prescription drugs and medical procedures in the first place. This ultimately will help keep your health-care costs down.

David Sherer, MD, is an American physician, inventor, and author. He currently practices anesthesiology in the suburbs of Washington D.C. and is a tireless advocate for hospitalized patients.
