Criep chair in patient care, and director, Institute for Doctor-Patient Communication, at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. His research focuses on helping doctors communicate better with patients with life-threatening illnesses. He has written numerous articles for professional journals, including The Journal of the American Medical Association and Annals of Internal Medicine.
