• Schedule recommended tests during Men’s Health Week: June 9 to 15. Check the Web site CDC.gov/Men/nmhw, and scroll down to “Get the Preventive Tests You Need” to find out which tests are recommended for each age group.
  • Protect valuables during travel: Leave your checkbook and unneeded credit cards at home. Carry slash-proof purses and camera cases (available from CorporateTravelSafety.com and Magellans.com). Don’t accept “help” from strangers. Be watchful with valuables on airport conveyor belts and while using public transportation.
  • Protect against mosquito and tick-borne diseases: Before going into woodsy areas, apply repellent with at least 20% DEET to exposed skin and clothing. Clothing and gear can be sprayed with permethrin, available at drugstores and other retail outlets. Factory-treated permethrin clothing, available at Eastern Mountain Sports, L.L.Bean and other outdoor stores, is effective through 70 washings.
  • Clear airport security faster: Check your boarding pass for TSA Pre?, TSA PRE or TSA PRECHK codes, which indicate that you have been enrolled in the TSA’s expedited screening program. Participants don’t have to remove shoes, belts or light jackets, and laptops don’t have to be taken out of their bags. Also: Certain airports have special security lanes for prescreened passengers.
