Martin Edelston, the founder of Boardroom Inc., passed away at the age of 84.

Marty, as everyone called him, was a pioneer when he launched this wonderful company more than 40 years ago in the basement of his home with $5,000 and a determination to help busy people get real-world advice that would allow them to live their lives better. He turned that vision into one of the world’s leading publishers of consumer newsletters and books, helping millions of readers live happier, healthier, wealthier lives.

Marty started his career as an advertising salesman and became a groundbreaker in the direct-marketing industry. In 2005, he was inducted into the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame. He was a philanthropist, a provocateur and a caring man of action who helped millions of individuals, both directly and through the invaluable advice in our publications.

There was nothing like working with and for Marty. He pushed us all to our highest levels, ensuring that our readers got only the best information from the very best experts in the world. The continuous improvement program he developed, called I-Power, created a culture that celebrated innovation and encouraged resourcefulness and action by all.

Marty was a constant inspiration to all of us here at Boardroom. We will miss him greatly—and, led by his wife, son and two daughters, we continue to carry on his important mission.
