You are out and about in the beautiful weather…but so are the mosquitoes! Here’s what to do if you get bitten.

Mosquitoes prefer warm over cold, light over dark, dirty over clean, adult over child and male over female. If you get bitten and want some quick relief with what you have on hand, quickly dab the spot with saliva, then apply any of the following…

• Wet soap

• Wet tobacco

• Mud

• Diluted ammonia (two teaspoons to one teaspoon water)

• Mixture of equal parts vinegar and lemon juice

As for the mosquito, after it bites you on one hand, be sure to give it the other hand—palm downward!

Warning: Mosquitoes can transmit the West Nile virus and other diseases, which can be serious and potentially fatal. Be sure to use mosquito repellent…wear long sleeves and pants in areas where mosquitoes are known to reside…eliminate standing water and other mosquito-breeding sites near your house…and repair any broken window and door screens.
