You went to a football bonfire or some smoky situation right after washing your best jeans, and now your favorite duds smell like the inside of a chimney. Here’s what to do…
If you’ve spent time in a smoke-filled room or near one of those outdoor fire pits or near a fireplace, chances are your clothes will reek from it. To get rid of the odor, fill a bathtub with steamy hot water and add one cup of distilled white vinegar.
Carefully hang the smoky garment so that the steam from the tub envelops it. Use a padded hanger for shirts or jackets so that the garment doesn’t get “shoulder bumps.” If you don’t have a padded hanger, you can pin shoulder pads around the ends of a hanger or do this.
How long you let the garment hang depends on how much it smells—usually an hour or two works fine.
