When you are making a purchase, which offers you greater protection from identity thieves—your debit card or your credit card? In this video, Adam Levin, chairman and founder of CyberScout and author of the book Swiped, emphasizes that you are always safer using your credit card. Typically, credit cards have more robust monitoring and fraud-prevention programs as well as additional rewards and other perks. More importantly, when you use a credit card, you are using their money whereas when you use a debit card, you are using your money. Credit cards also give you more time to catch fraud compared to debit cards. Finally, Mr. Levin encourages credit card users to treat their credit card as if it were a debit card and pay off their balances monthly.
