Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of New Jersey and ­EmblemHealth took the top two spots in Insure.com’s 2019 ratings of the best major US health insurers. ­Insure.com surveyed more than 3,100 current policyholders to rate the 15 health insurers with the most market share. The companies were rated on customer service…claims satisfaction…usefulness and ease-of-use of the website and mobile apps…whether the value of the plan was worth the price…whether the consumer liked the plan enough to renew it…and whether the consumer would recommend the insurer. 

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey received the top overall rating and also was number one in best value for the price. It was among several regional Blue Cross Blue Shield companies that stood out for the largest network of providers in the ­industry. ­EmblemHealth (also called Health Insurance Plan of New York and ­ConnectiCare), ranked number two, is one of the largest not-for-profit insurers, serving more than three million people in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey.
