Costco Anywhere Visa by Citi, which replaced the TrueEarnings Card from Costco and American Express on June 20, pays back 4% cash on up to $7,000 in annual gas purchases worldwide (equal to $280 cash back) and then 1%…3% on dining and travel…2% on Costco non-gas purchases…and 1% on most other purchases anywhere. Costco annual membership fee: Starts at $55.

Sam’s Club MasterCard, which replaced its Discover card in 2014, pays 5% back on up to $6,000 in annual gas spending in the US and Puerto Rico and then 1%…3% on dining and travel…and 1% on most other purchases at Sam’s Club but not elsewhere. Rewards are capped at $5,000 a year. Sam’s Club annual membership fee: Starts at $45.

My BJ’s Perks MasterCard provides a 10-cent-per-gallon discount on BJ’s gas purchases (the equivalent of 4% back when gas costs $2.50 a gallon) or 2% cash back on non-BJ’s gas ­purchases…3% on non-gas BJ’s purchases…and 1% on other purchases. BJ’s membership fee in first year: $50.

If you pay a $100 annual fee for an upgraded membership to BJ’s ­warehouses, this card gives you 5% on non-gas BJs purchases.
