These fun, practical kitchen gadgets make great holiday gifts.

Butter Blade (Microplane). This small knife has rows of small holes at the bottom of the blade that, when pulled across the top of a stick of butter, create soft strands that can be used for spreading. These strands won’t tear bread when you try to butter it with hard butter. The rounded tip has a hollow semicircle to create attractive curled butter garnishes. Dishwasher-safe, but hand-wash and dry the cover. $9.95.

Ginger Peeler (Küchenprofi). When I use fresh ginger, I find that I cut away a lot of the flesh trying to remove the peel. This little gadget solves that problem, easily removing peel from corners and crevices. Dishwasher-safe. $14.95.

Forged Stainless Steel Chef Knife with EdgeKeeper Self-Sharpening Sheath, eight inch (Sabatier). A knife should be drawn across a sharpening steel before each use to keep it sharp. I really like the fact that this step is done for me by the knife sheath, which not only protects the knife when it’s stored but has a built-in mechanism that hones the blade before and after each use. I found it’s a very good small knife, especially at this very reasonable price. Hand-wash and dry. $14.99.

Black Cube Hybrid Skillet (Frieling). This stainless steel “hybrid” nonstick skillet has a stainless steel grid that sits above a nonstick surface. The food cooks on these raised stainless steel “pixels.” The pan lets you sear food at high temperatures, make sauces and still has nonstick properties. I love that I can use metal utensils with it and that it is so easy to clean. I’ve been using it for months, and it’s my go-to pan. The nonstick coating is PFOA-free. Dishwasher-safe. 11-inch skillet, $79.95.
