Even the most diligent among us cannot completely avoid coming in contact with environmental toxins, so what are some natural things people can do to their body? In this video, Dr. Andrew Rubman, naturopathic physician and author of Bottom Line’s “Nature Doc’s Patient Diary” blog, explains that the answer comes from three angles—inside the body…outside the body…and diet. When it comes to the inside of the body, Dr. Rubman focuses on aiding the organs that help with detoxification such as the liver and the gastrointestinal tract. B vitamins and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) help detox the liver, while glucomannan binds toxins in the GI tract. Regarding the outside of the body, Dr. Rubman suggests contrast bath therapy—alternating hot and cold water to help clear toxins from bodily tissues. Finally, a diet rich in raw or lightly cooked food and lacking simple sugars and fried foods will prevent additional toxins from accumulating in your body.
