Joint-replacement surgery is becoming increasingly common, but is your physician telling you everything you need to know about this procedure? In this video, Dr. David Sherer, anesthesiologist and author of Bottom Line’s What Your Doctor Isn’t Telling You blog, discusses some of the things you need to take into account if you or a loved one is considering this surgery. The surgeon should have extensive experience with the joint-replacement surgery in question so that he/she is aware of any complications that may arise. It is a red flag if your surgeon has not performed your operation hundreds of times. In addition, patients need to understand the impact that the surgery will have on them, as well as the expected path to their recovery. Finally, be sure to discuss pain management with your doctor before the operation to ensure that the results are as pain-free as possible.
