Medical marijuana is an effective treatment for children with seizure disorders, but it still is controversial. That’s because of the stigma surrounding marijuana as a recreational drug, says Dr. David Sherer, anesthesiologist and author of Bottom Line’s What Your Doctor Isn’t Telling You blog. But this cannabis is medical, not recreational, in nature, says Dr. Sherer, and does not produce the psychoactive “high” as a side effect—but it still stops seizures in children who do not respond to medication or even surgery.
