When it comes to power foods that promote a healthy brain, our nutrition and fitness expert Janet Bond Brill, PhD, RDN, FAND, LDN, says that the same foods that are good for your heart are good for your brain. She recommends the Mediterranean diet, which consists mainly of plant-based foods and healthy fats…and foods rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA to benefit the brain. Adding spices such as saffron and turmeric to foods will contribute to brain health and even can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Foods that are bad for the brain include those high in saturated fats, animal fats and sodium.
