Louis J. Aronne, MD, FACP

Louis J. Aronne, MD, FACP, is the Sanford I. Weill Professor of Metabolic Research and director of the Comprehensive Weight Control Center at Weill Cornell Medical College, and adjunct professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, all in New York City. He is vice-chairman of the board of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, served as consultant to the VA Weight Management/Physical Activity Executive Council in the development of the nation’s largest medically-based weight control program and has won several awards for medical teaching, including The Leo Davidoff Society Lifetime Achievement Award in Education from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and The Elliot Hochstein Teaching Award from Cornell University. Dr. Aronne has authored more than 60 papers and book chapters on obesity and edited the National Institutes of Health’s Practical Guide to the Identification, Evaluation, and Treatment of Overweight and Obesity in Adults. Theresa Garnero, RN, MS

Theresa Garnero, RN, MS (nursing), is an advanced practice RN, board-certified in advanced diabetes management, a certified diabetes educator and instructional designer in the Family Health Care Nursing division at University of California, San Francisco. She combines science and therapeutic humor in her approach to helping people with diabetes, and has received the Diabetes Educator of the Year award from the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Ms. Garnero has also founded Dance Out Diabetes, a local nonprofit program to help prevent and manage diabetes in at-risk community members, and is author and illustrator of three books on diabetes, including Your First Year with Diabetes (American Diabetes Association). Osama Hamdy, MD, PhD, FACE

Osama Hamdy, MD, PhD, FACE, is a senior endocrinologist at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, where he is a clinical investigator and medical director of the obesity clinical program and director of the inpatient diabetes program. He is also professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hamdy is on the nutrition committee of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), which developed many of the current guidelines for nutrition and obesity management. He is also on the editorial board of US Endocrinology and Journal of Nutritional Disorders & Therapy and is a member of the scientific review board of many scientific medical journals, including JAMA, Diabetes Care, The Lancet and Obesity. John La Puma, MD

John La Puma, MD, is a board-certified specialist in internal medicine and a professionally trained chef who has lectured on culinary medicine at Harvard, University of Chicago, TEDMED, Kaiser Permanente and aboard MS The World. He has been deeply interested in diabetes since college, where he wrote his first research paper on the condition. His recognition that cooking skills and flavor were often missing for people struggling with overweight, obesity and diabetes led him to work for Chef Rick Bayless and then found Chef Clinic, a national medical practice based in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. La Puma is cofounder and host of the popular PBS series “ChefMD Shorts with Dr. John La Puma.” He serves on the advisory board of the Tulane University School of Medicine Center for Culinary Medicine and on the board of directors for Foodbank of Santa Barbara County. His current work focuses on lifestyle medicine and the developing field of nature therapy. Hope Warshaw, RD, CDE, MMSc, BC-ADM, is a dietitian and certified diabetes educator with a consulting practice in Northern Virginia, Hope Warshaw Associates, LLC. She is contributing editor for Diabetic Living magazine, writes the Nutrition Q&A column in The Washington Post and was recently cited as one of the top dozen people who have made an impact on diabetes care in the US. During 2017, she is serving as Immediate Past President of the American Association of Diabetes Educators.
